01 / about the series

through
local eyes.

one of my favorite things when i travel is meeting people along the way and having great conversations — you never know who you’ll talk with on a train journey, during a hostel stay, or just in general. and more often than not, they’ve taught me things about a country i probably wouldn’t have found in a guidebook. and being the curious person that i am, i thought, why stop there?! so that’s how this came about!

through local eyes is a little collection of conversations with people from around the world about the places they call home. some i’ve met during my travels, while others i’ve gotten to know from afar. i ask them about the food they love, where they’d actually take a friend visiting for the first time, and all those little (random) things about their culture that outsiders might not know about.

i suppose what makes this special to me is that instead of reading up on the usual tourist recommendations you can find just about anywhere, i’m now able to get to know the real side of a city through the personal experiences of people who call it home. it really does make you think differently about a place, and you learn something new every time.
