Do you sometimes feel lifeless, cold and desperate about what you’ve been doing? Have you ever felt like you’re stuck and you don’t know what to do to change it?
I know.
I feel you.
I sometimes wish to be just like those other people who have this more practical career path in mind – knowing the course or the steps to be taken to achieve that lifelong dream and worry about almost nothing. Then I might not be so anxious about the future and be so bent out of shape.
You see, all I ever wanted was to be published and featured on National Geographic, to have my own documentary on Netflix, to make a film that celebrates the different stories of people around the world, to explore the least-visited places, to constantly immerse myself in different cultures, and to learn all that this world has to offer. Is that too much to ask? Maybe, as I’ve had people tell me that I’ve been biting off more than I can chew. But that’s just who I am, I suppose. I don’t want to fit in with the status quo or go along with it. I want to be as big as my dream, and as bold as that.
Then again, there is no such thing as the easy way of life.
Over the years, I’ve spent most of my days and nights trying to master the ability to face whatever life chooses to throw at me. And even though I was one of those people who, because of fear and lack of self-confidence, always second guessed their abilities, it was through these challenges that I realized that feeling the fear of getting stuck was natural. Afraid of it? Great, because feeling scared makes you feel more alive!
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but feeling scared, lost or maybe stuck in life is a valuable part of the process.
We may be in the phase of our lives where we feel as though we are living a life of mediocrity, or where we have absolutely no idea whether or not our goals are worthy, or whether those are what we should set for ourselves. But that’s how life is. And really, the best option you have right now is to keep trying, because you’ll never really know what’s waiting for you tomorrow, or the next day, months or so. You may not even be sure if what you’re doing right now is the right thing to do. But just as there can be no night without a day, there can be no success without trying. Only by trying can you possibly reach your goals. Only by trying can you possibly figure out how far you can actually get.
I don’t have a single clue as to what you’re going through, but this I know — our time is coming.
Our time is coming and everything is going to make sense, and life is going to be nothing short of beautiful.
Until then, dig deeper into who you are as a person and be ready to jump through so many hoops. Join like-minded groups, network with like-minded people, read more books, write more often, help yourself do whatever you need to help you stay on track, and in any case, take control of your perspective in every situation.
Use whatever you’ve got inside to break the brick wall of fear. Stop worrying about the past and the future. Choose instead to carry the wisdom of the past, your hope for the future, and your courage to face the present.
Onwards and upwards!
